Still Sara

Sara at Venice Beach with Harry Perry
Sporting his album tshirt and pants from Thailand

Sara wore this get-up on her family’s early morning flight into LAX, knowing she’d be rocking it for the lunch stop at Venice Beach. Her favorite pants a friend had given her following a trip to Thailand were the perfect pairing for the Harry Perry t-shirt to see the rollerblading, guitar-playing, singer again.

If you’ve ever been to Venice Beach, you’ve probaby seen and heard Harry. He’s a fixture. While he busks, there are CDs and merchandise available. What Sara loves most is his smile. It’s beautiful and contagious.

When the travel plans took shape for the family of four, Sara’s young sons heard her excitement regarding the perfect outfit for the first stop of the journey to see the guy named Harry Perry the Kama Kosmic Krusader they’d heard briefly on disc. The artist’s name accurately reflects his musical explorations. The preteen boys were not impressed – with any part of Sara’s fangirl adventure.

Fortunately, Sara’s husband was used to her spirited side and took it in stride because, even in L.A., people took second looks at the middle-aged, white lady in the unlikely wardrobe. You know she hit the bullseye when, upon seeing her, Harry Perry’s greeted her with, “Wow. Quite the outfit,” and flashed his bright smile. Mission accomplished.

When I come across the picture above, it never fails to bring a smile to my face. The reminder of Sara’s spunkiness, determination, and humor lights the spark in me. I’ve been Surviving Sara as long as I can remember and I’m holding onto the fact that I’m Still Sara.
