Van Gogh Immersion

As soon as I saw the advertisement for the Van Gogh Immersion Experience, I bought tickets. I really enjoy seeing art installations, and this one was ending soon. When my husband asked what it was, I told him it’s like being in Van Gogh’s paintings.

The beginning part of the museum taught about the life and work of the artist. Series of paintings made for interesting insights into Vincent Van Gogh’s stages of art and life.

Pictures were allowed but not with a flash. Unfortunately, for most of the displays, lighting prevented good photos due to a glare. One of my favorite parts of the whole visit was a showing of the vases series. This was done with a solid, white 3D vase with the paintings changing in holograms.

Following this, it was time for the main event. Entering a room measuring maybe 80 ft x 30 ft. with projections on all four walls, we sat in chairs all around. Indeed, Van Gogh’s paintings did come to life! Put to music, the room depicted Starry Night, the Rooms, Roots, Self-Portraits and more. Details moved through and lighting shone colorful patterns across the floor. There were adirondack chair, huge pillows, and a round couch with seats on the outside. People came and went in their own time. Unfortunately, there was a warning about nausea, vertigo, and dizziness, and we heard several people in the gift shop and on the way out discuss feeling lousy. I’m prone to all three of those, but luckily I didn’t experience any.

In the moment, waves of water splashed up out of paintings, butterflies flew through, the compositions grew, swayed, and came alive. It was a great experience and my husband enjoyed it too! Highly recommend it if this installation comes to your town.
